To be free, one has to be wealthy financially? Not true. To be free, one can be debt free but not necessarily wealthy. We must not get ourselves into debts, especially credit card debts. There are so called healthy debts such as home mortgage. Although mortgage helps to serve the "healthy" purpose of owning a home, but I feel skeptical that people are trapping themselves to own a home. I also do not favour in leveraging to invest in stocks, CFDs and derivatives because the risks amplified in tandem with profits and losses.
When we are free from debt and heavy liabilities, we will be able to sleep with a peace of mind everyday.
To live a free life, one must be appreciative of our nature and not taking for granted the free elements in life to live. Oxygen we breathe is free. Love from family and friends is free. Water is sort of free. Knowledge is free, though education is not. We do not need to receive education in order to learn and upskill.
To be free, we should keep ourselves healthy and fit so that our bodies are physically free from ailments and the doctor. Keeping fit by exercising regularly is also free. It just takes commitment and discipline to lead a fit lifestyle.
There are so many ways to lead a free life. We should live our lives free from worries, sicknesses, debts, pain and sorrow. Do you agree?
With love & peace,
Qiongster
Hi,
ReplyDeletePeace of mind (without any debt) is the best as per my perspective.

Another ingredient to be able to live "free" and happy without being wealthy is to be able to ignore nor compare with what others have.
ReplyDeleteJealousy and covetousness over what others have but that you don't have is a sure way to cause unhappiness and anxiety,
A friend of mine was blissfully enjoying his retirement at age 55 feeling good about himself until he found out that his contemporaries were wealthier and still working and accumulating more wealth. Now he is having doubts if his savings would be sufficient to last his retirement. This constant worry has started to affect his sleep and the anxiety level has gone up.
Another example was a colleague who happily treated his colleagues to lunch upon receiving his "generous" bonus, only to find out later that among the colleagues he treated, quite a few of them received far fatter bonuses. That revelation quickly took away his happiness.
Life is quite complicated and many things are out of our control and we also cannot simply shut some of them out of our lives. For eg., we could be doing well, but our siblings or close relatives could be facing hardship. This could put a damper in our happiness.
Yes I agree. We should run our own races with ourselves. Not to place emphasis on rat race. Eliminate the idea of competition in our lives. Competition is non essential as we can see, sports, Olympics, racing and office politics are all suspended during this pandemic, which are great things to mankind.
DeleteThere is no need for rat race. Own competition is also rendered a red herrings as long as one has sufficient saving to last him or her for a lifetime. How much? This can be forever as long as one maintain a minimalist lifestyle and there is no need for much investment portfolio to sustain such lifestyle. A simple guide will be the generated dividend from the portfolio cover the annual expense on a continuous basis.
